A client has asked about a form they are being asked to complete to become a new supplier. They are a printing business making signage, banners etc. The form is requesting the structure ie partnership, partnerships tax number, but also the tax payers name and NI.
Is this something to do with the ir35? They have never been asked to do it before. They do mostly b2b.
Thanks Lyndsey

Doesn't appear to be ir35 on the face of it, from what you've described. I would ask to see the form if you haven't already. Where are the potential customers based? It's very common to be asked more questions, including tax status stuff by some of the big Irish companies, the rest I've not seen for partnerships. But tbh I would just ask the question of the potential customer, they will be used to it I'm sure.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
They are relatively new to business and asked me about it. I can't see why he would fall under ir35, but that was my only idea why they would require the taxpayers NI as well as the partnership tax details.
They haven't done any supplies out of UK yet (and he hasn't mentioned it's outside UK). He has been doing a few contract for govt bodies recently ie NHS etc. I will check who the supplier is and see.
I was going to ask if construction was involved as it sounds very like the form I send out to our new suppliers.
Unless they are going to be working on site building signs that could be deemed to be part of a construction project then I would cross that part through and put a note on saying our supplies do not come under the scope of CIS.
