sage subscriptions-fictional company for practice purposes

I would like to ask you for help guys. Can you tell me how sage online subscriptions work ? I don't need sage for work purposes . I don't work in accountancy. I would like to practise entering data into sage and develop my computer keyboard skills in relation to sage. I bought trial version of sage before but now it expired so I need practise tool again. I am taking computerised accounting exam soon and need to develop speed. I don't want to save my work. I want to enter scenario and don't need to save it . I want to create fictional company, enter fictional customers and suppliers, enter invoices, do payments and receipts , do bank reconciliation and print reports. I want to create one or two backup files so that I can restore them anytime I want to enter new scenario. Do you think buying online subscription can serve my purpose ? Can you practise entering data when you buy sage subscription ?

Seem to recall Joanne asking you which sage you were using for your exam. Sage one is VERY different to sage 50. I can see you were learning on sage 50. So what is your exam using?

Either way you can download free one month trial from sage. When the month has been used - do another month with a different email address (just set up another email address, use yahoo, google, whatever). Sage said its ok! There are a few of these questions which give this answer on this forum!

To develop general speed of input, before downloading sage why not just try typing things on a spreadsheet (or even just getting a feel for the keyboard by copy typing something in word)

Problem is - with the exam you wont be doing lots repetitive type input stuff, as they want to see that you understand your way round the software, so it might be day 4 sales and 4 purchase invoices, then it will be a few different processes.

You should find you get enough time in the exam.

Yes I asked which sage. Its crucial that one Rafal as they are indeed quite different.

You can, as Casu states just get a month free trial so its worth looking into doing that - just make sure it is the same sage as you will be using for your exam. Dont go paying for the software. When is your exam? Other Q is - why have the college not extended the right to use the practice software until you have finsihed your exam. Worth asking them that one (and you really shouldnt have to pay...unless of course you have delayed the exam and had access to the software for a year +)

If you download a trial you will be able to save work, but also then be able to get rid of it all and start again.

What was the sage version of the one you were practising on the other day? It was sage 50 by the looks of it, but looked like an old-ish one - do you know?

Might have to use the sage essentials (old sage instant) package trial, which I think is the same, although Ive not even had the chance to look at it so might be a bit wrong.

thanks guys for replies Version I used for practice is sage 50 v.20. Version we are using in class is definitely sage 50 C. I found screenshots in the internet and yes they reflect sage 50 C that we are using in class. Nominal accounts in sage 50 v.20 and in sage 50C are organized identically when compared to attached document named ' list 1' ( bank current account is coded 1200, petty cash is coded 1230 and sales ledger control account is coded 1100 etc. ) We are not going to use version where nominal accounts are organized identically when compared to attached document named ' list 2' .

-- Edited by rafapak on Tuesday 28th of March 2017 09:23:28 PM I tried to download month trial version but it didn't download. Error occured while downloading. This is probably because I downloaded some accounting software on my computer before. I tried to remove it later by clicking ' remove' button but I was told that it doesn't remove all files from your hard drive. Now probably earlier downloaded items are in ' conflict' with items I would like to download now. Bad luck again !

Ah, the little nuggets that sage leave behind when you try to delete their software. Great isn't it! Try downloading the new one to a different drive, so if your original one was on say the c drive, direct the new download away from that to another. Then blast the subject so you have it all done and dusted before that download expires in a month.
