Mr. Andy Street is the new Mayor of the West Midlands - Congratulations. I do think he had an easy route though considering the competition.

Labour are looking finished.

UKIP - Who are they?

I think nobody could argue against Mrs. May being Prime Minister again. I'm sceptical about the Tories - although I like Jacob Rees Mogg.

There really is no competition in this GE at all - none.

Hi Johnny,

with the retoric coming from Europe we really need a strong leadership that gets us out of Europe without allowing them to believe that they are the ones calling the shots.

Did you see that speech from Junker which shows exactly what they think of us?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-39816044

I understand now where Europe is getting figures like its 100 billion divorce settlement from when one considers that in the world 1.1 billion people speak English but only 220 million speak French... But Mr Junkers inability to handle basic mathematics tells him that French is the dominant language and English is a dieing one! Just wishful thinking on his part I think.

With speeches such as that my view is that we dont give Europe one brass farthing. The countries that want to trade with us are more than welcome to be our friends. Those that don't are free to dwindle into financial obscurity. I hope that the more sensible people of France distance themselves from such stupid comments and realise that their sound economic future is in trading with us, not by listening to small minded divisive beurocrats in Brussels.

Lets put the Great back into Great Britain and no matter what one's normal political bias on June the 8th Give Teressa May the power to manage a sensible exit from this beurocratic debarcle that is the EU.

In four years time when we have negotiated a strong trading position in the world everyone can return to their normal party loyalties but for now I think time to put Britain first and last night seems to be the first sign that the people are doing just that.

Oh Johnny - you should maybe move to Greater Manchester where they have just voted in Andy Burnham - no surprises there with 9 out of 10 councils being labour run. Personally I think Stockport should devolve from Greater Manchester, although the council leaders are still a bunch of muppets who are very good at spending taxpayers money on sh*te in the town centre and ignoring all the surrounding villages.

I dont do politics on forums/social media generally!

I totally agree with you Shaun, Britain should come together at last and support Theresa May in exiting Europe.

The Tories are the only ones who can get us out of this mess that some British has put us in.

She does remind me of dear old Maggie!

My son is doing a Politics degree at the mo at Uni, so plenty to talk about!

Not according to Diane Abbott.....her figures suggest Labour won by a landslide!!

Mixed feelings here.  Definitely agree that the Conservatives are the best to see us through Brexit.  Sadly those at the lower end of the social spectrum will continue to suffer, and the NHS will continue to decline.

On the business front, expect Phil Hammond to narrow the gap considerably on the tax treatment of the employed and the self employed

John,

I don't think the public should have been given the Brexit vote in the first place, too many people voted that didn't even understand it.

I worked with a young girl at the time and the discussion got very heated, and I asked her why she voted out, her answer was because her boyfriend voted in she voted out to annoy him!!! People like that shouldn't even be allowed to vote.

I'm sorry but naively I just assumed people would cast their vote based on what they believed, but your example shows how idiotic some people can be.

(I was a leave supporter but I was on holiday on the day of the referendum so didn't vote, and didn't make the effort to do a postal ballot)

I do sincerely believe though that 2-3 years of pain (and so far it's been nowhere near as bad as Dave and George predicted) is worth it to reap the benefits that being out of the EU will bring us.

Hi John,

A good example of the pain before gain in German reunification. Just after the wall came down there was some serious second thoughts when the country was going through the financial anguish of the divorce from Russia and pulling itself back together.... Look at Germany now.

lol. considering their current stance I suspect that they really don't want to be used as the shining example as to how to move away from one regime and come out of it much better off!

The trouble is, for Labour, they have a very weak, extreme left leader - which the Tories are loving.

JC would make great entertainment as an independent party candidate, popping up now and then berating the Goverment, but as the leader of the opposition, not for me.

The Tories have moved closer to the centre appealing to more people.

With this £100 billion bill, is that after our share of the assets have been taken out? Ridiculous figure considering how much this country has contributed in the past.

I like Andy Burnham although when I hear him speak I hear Gary Barlow!

In other news - Tony Blair is forming a new party.....

I thought it might have been a reference to people suffering the cold a little more due to the increased cost of heating our homes since some unexplained phenomenon that appears to have taken place in July caused a drop in the value of sterling.

Or a reference to people's choice of language when faced with increased costs overall, as a result of that same unexplained phenomenon.

Not sure what it might have been, though. Anyone have any idea? Was there any warning that it was going to happen? Could we have prevented it?
