AccountEx over - feet in recovery

Just to say a warm thanks to members on here who took the time to stop and speak with me in person at AccountEx this week. Also to acknowledge that Mark Stewart was true to his earlier promise and popped in for a strongly accented chat that I suspect nobody living outside Scotland / Northern Ireland would have understood a word of. biggrin

Our first time exhibiting was very interesting. Hopefully, it will have been worth the outlay in the long run.

Note to self: next time don't be so tight and bring, buy or rent a chair for the two days - my feet are killing me!

Hi Ian
Hope you enjoyed the experience despite the sore feet and that you get a good rest over the weekend. Plus of course that you got loads of business out of it.

Sorry I couldnt make it - realised 1 May that I would have my back against the wall until about mid June and was actually thinking of sending you a good luck message this weekend - oops, no idea what day it is!!!

Sounds like you would do it again.

Hi Ian

Unfortunately it clashed with a visit to Watford to look after our nephew for the weekend, but I only realised about a month ago Accountex was on. Would like to go next year though and will look you up if I do.

Just a lazy query, but would it be possible to develop something similar with VT that you do with Sage. Had I been a sage user I would find your software invaluable, and I only scraped the surface of what it can do.  Not sure what the userbase of VT users would be compared to sage though so it might not be practical.

Hi Mark,

Likewise, good to meet up last week. Hope the seminars got your cogs turning. Back to implementing your prioritised to-do list this week. Ho-hum!

Hi John,

Had a quick look at VTT+ yesterday and will probably have a further look in the weeks ahead, time permitting. I think it may be possible to generate an "Onion style" reporting workbook, but it seems a lot more difficult to work out the structure of the data and access it using the VT Object Models than it is for Sage using the ODBC driver and SQL.  Standard layouts will be more tricky in VTT+. For example, if I understand correctly, VTT+ has unlimited "Ledgers" whereas Sage has a fixed number of "Ledgers", ten, 5 for the P&L and 5 for the Balance sheet.

For those on here that use VTT+:

  • does anyone know how many users there are across the UK and Ireland?
  • is there such a thing as a demo company for VTT+ or would I have to generate my own data before I could look at reporting on it?
  • what would be the main reporting frustrations for those using VTT+?

Hi Joanne,

Sorry I missed you out in the post above. John sidetracked me with his VTT+ talk.

We would do it again, finances permitting - it's an expensive undertaking. We'll monitor things over the forthcoming months to see if the boost to our profile is value for money.

It's great to get to talk to users and get some input on their real life issues. Maybe next year?

Regards,

Hi Ian

It was lovely to meet you at AccountEx - and I'm absolutely delighted to have won in your competition biggrin

My colleague, Lynne, and I had already decided that we would be trialling Onion, with a view to use it as our reporting software after talking to you and finding out all about it, so to then find that I'd won was fantastic. Lynne is due to sign up for the 30 day trial asap, so you may want to prepare yourself for the bombardment of questions!!

Best wishes

Helen

I've heard such things can be mega wonga so I do hope you see a huge boost to your profits.  I really must do a download an try it out myself whenever I get more than a second to myself. I have a customer that probably could benefit but would need to have a chat with you (End of June might be good for that!)

i really should put this one in my diary now for next May then no-one else can have the dates, so yes a possibility. But only if you and Mark promise to get a translator for us (made me laugh that did!)

Hi Helen,

It was great to meet both of you too. Your interest brightened my day. Smiles and a friendly attitude go a long way these days.

I'm pleased you won in our "100 licence giveaway" free draw. The phones are manned. Fire away with your questions.

Warm regards,
