I have a new client that has a company car, he pays all the fuel costs and claims back the business mileage only as an expense, all other costs are costs are covered by his employer. His employer pays 12p per mile for business miles, however he advises that the mileage actually costs 15.5p per mile, is there any way that he can claim these additional costs against his tax code?
My understanding is that if you have a company car and the employer only reimburses some of the expense then you can claim relief on the difference as long as it is for business mileage only

I had assumed (maybe wrongly) that if the client was claiming that his mileage was more than what was being reimbursed then he would have the proof to back this up and that a legitimate claim for relief could be made
