The more observant will note that I have removed the word daily. Yhink that was a bit of an over enthusiatic commitment there on my part.

For todays (this weeks) thought  to ponder :

"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals" Henry David Thoreau

You don't just want folk to ponder, but also to post Shaun!

If I achieve my main goal of today I would become a lot calmer! Probably poorer too.

My goal......to tell some of my clients clients to eff orf......they are a right bunch of arrogant rude tosspots.

Big hugs Joanne, sounds like you're having a stressful time.

My goal is to actually complete something I set a deadline for!!  I was meant to change my business name for the beginning of April but I was nowhere near ready to change, so I've been putting it off each month.  Finally decided to change it ready for 1st July even though The website isn't ready, but I've pencilled in a couple of weekends during July to get that sorted.

Ahhh thanks John.

So when you do achieve your goal, what will you become? The goal itself is a one off, but the effects of reaching it last a lot longer.

So, are you willing to tell us your relaunch name? How will that fit with your forum name?

Yorkshire Bookkeeping & Accounting Ltd.  I've sent the request to Companies House, and hopefully the name change will occur sometime around the 3rd July.  Website will be ybal.co.uk which I think is really cool and easy to remember.  I've got some big plans for the website, but not all at one go.  The last one hasn't been touched since I first set it up over two years ago, and even that was just a copy from the one before. My goal is to keep the new one current and fresh.

I can't change the forum name, but that's not really important. You all know who I am smile

ybal.co.uk is nice and short, which is always good...

But!

(You knew that was coming!)

When giving it out to people, think about how you say it. I'd probably be inclined to say "y bal dot co dot you kay" in which case the 'y' might be heard as 'why' - so I'd register "whybal.co.uk" as well and set it to do http redirect to ybal.co.uk.

(Email could be a bit messier depending on your set up - easiest thing would be to set whybal.co.uk emails to send an auto-reply telling people to use ybal.co.uk, because that then encourages them to fix what they mis-heard).

Just a thought.

Edit: The forum turned the domains into links, so I've unlinked them. Unless it does it again when I submit this!

I'd not thought of that Vince, but I would say it as y b a l not y bal.  Registered anyway as it's a valid point.

A bit of advice needed.  We discussed a while ago about email address for white label payroll.

Obviously I will be using the new ybal email from hereon, and the easiest way is to redirect the old email addresses to the new ones, but I seem to remember you used alias's?  So I would have admin @ yabal but still receive emails under admin @ legerbookkeeping as I do now but want to reply from the ybal address.  Is that easy enough to do in Thunderbird?

Also feeling particularly chuffed as I have just purchased a brand new voipfone from ebay for £76 that retails at £200 near enough.  It's probably overkill for what I need (12 incoming lines eeek) but a bargain nevertheless.

Well, I set myself the goal when I set up this business of gaining a set amount of clients in the first year which I am glad to say I have achieved.

So what have I become

More confident in dealing with people whilst gaining more experience at the same time, but still aware that there is still so much more to learn and so many more goals to set and achieve.

I do - though I have changed the way I do it since that discussion! I've expanded the number of separate mailboxes I use, and switched from using POP3 to IMAP - but in principle, the same rules apply.

"So I would have admin @ yabal but still receive emails under admin @ legerbookkeeping as I do now but want to reply from the ybal address.  Is that easy enough to do in Thunderbird?"

Yes. At its simplest, whenever you write an email, whether that's a new one or a reply to one, you can just click on the 'From' field and choose any of the email aliases you have set up - either for the same mailbox, or a different one. So, for example, say you have two mailboxes, john@legerb and john@ybal, and you receive an email to john@legerb. By default, if you hit reply, the from email address will show john@legerb - but if you click on the from field, you can change it to john@ybal.

Similarly, you might have a second alias set up on the john@ybal account - let's say sales@ybal; so now when you click on that from field, you'll have three addresses you can choose from - the two above, and sales@ybal.

And at the very bottom of the list, you should also see "Customise from address" - if you click on that, you can modify the email address: That way, you don't have to set up every alias you use, and can just edit them into play as you see fit.

Best bit of advice I ever had was to include my location in my domain name.

Therefore I use wiltshireaccountants.co.uk It is fantastic for SEO even though my trading name is PAH Accounting.

Yes - I hadn't thought of that, but that does seem a good idea. The only slight bugbear with it is that it seems odd to have a business named "abc" with a domain name "xyz" - if it was me, I'd have the domain name "abc" to match the business, and simply redirect "xyz" to it. (Much as I suggested above with "whybal".

Also: Didn't realise you were in Wiltshire, Phil! Looking a little closer, I can see I've been not very far at all from you a couple of times this year, when I've gone for walks in that area (parking by Knapp Hill)

New York Paris Peckham Doncaster biggrinbiggrin

Just Doncaster and surrounding area initially but the long term aim is to spread outwards.

Was very surprised when I checked Co House and the name change happened the following day.

Yeah, was a bit dubious at first but I also have PAH Accounting.com which redirects to my main site.

Not far from Knapp Hill! Feel free to pop in for a coffee if you are down this way
