I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself before my first post!
Firstly thank you to Joanne, John, Doug, Shaun, Brian and Casu for taking the time so far to help me.
My name is Debbie and I live outside Belfast.
I am currently researching studying bookkeeping from home as I cannot find a local college to study at part time.
My end goal at this stage is to be legally qualified to complete my husband's accounts and file his SA online to HMRC (He is a driving instructor)
After reading so much fantastic advice on this forum I have decided that I am best concentrating on the learning aspect of bookkeeping before even considering taking clients.
I have completed a BTEC in business and finance (many many many years ago) and have recently completed my IAB Level 2 in computerised accounts at night class which I choose to do in order to help my decision with returning to study......it has made me realise I'm really you are never to old to learn something new!
Welcome to the madhouse Debbie. Just realised I called you by your Sunday name on the other post. You can add your preferred name onto the signature panel - via edit profile--> signature and then at least we should get the right variation next time you are on here.
Think I will keep my comments on the training one on the other post for now, so as not to confuse.
Agree you are never too old. Guessing you are younger than most of the ones you named above! Beware, studying can become addictive. There is always CPD (Continual Prof development) to look forward to in this job but some on here are gluttons for punishment and despite holding full practice certificates are going on to do further Charterships, additional tax qualifications and Masters degrees just to feed their addictions.

I'm from Belfast myself. Does Belfast Met not do this sort of thing? I think Castlereagh College (swallowed up by BMC) used to do it and I'd be surprised if it didn't continue.
A quick google reveals a part time Accounting Technicians Ireland course:
ATI Level 5 Diploma for Accounting Technicians (QCF), Level 5, Titanic Quarter, Part-time,11 Sep 17, Apply only, C4037/201E
Maybe not what you're looking for.
I wish you all the best with your studies and that demanding first client of yours!
Thank you Joanne and Ian!!!!
Ian I need to study from home as I wont be able to commit to attending college regularly..... I need to start at the basic of basic bookkeeping so this is maybe a course for the future....thank you for the link.....I am of course going to google it now.....I am sooooo looking forward to studying again
I know what u mean John. Only just a slip of a lad at 56 a few weeks back and still not feeling past my thirties yet... I'm sure that when I was growing up people of this age were soooo much older.
Interesting thought that the next (or maybe next plus one) generation of people to hypethetically start going into old folks homes will be listening to the like of Motorhead or the Jam (better be different old folks homes, lol)... I say hypathetically because I'm sure that our generation will skip that and just carry on discracfully until our expiry dates.... Which isn't of course looking good for the retirement home industry.

They do say 50 is the new 40, which is the new 30, which is the new 21. But having got to 50 several I dont think either of you can use that one!!! You could instead use - you are only as young as the women you feel!

I can picture it now... a bunch of old folk are in the common room of their home, with some Motorhead blasting out of the stereo...
"If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man...
You win some, lost some, it's all the same to me...
The ace of spades, the ace of spades!"
Bill will look up and ask "What's that he just sang?"
Frank will answer "I think he said something about Ace of Bass"
Terry will pipe up and ask "Isn't that a band our grand kids sometimes listen to?"
Frank will reply "Yes - not the sort of thing I expected Lemmy to sing about!"
Bill will conclude "I don't think I like Motorhead any more."
They'll all shake their heads in disappointment, and turn off the stereo.

But my choice of music is bubblegum pop, so it'll be the likes of Clout, Baccara, Bananarama, The Nolans and the Dooleys (who should have released a record called "I've Got You" ) How well that'll go down with the rest of the head banging old fogies I'm not sure.

And I am very much still an eighties Mod, my Lambretta is parked outside the retirement home next to someone's Harley and my parka is hanging next to someone's leathers in the hall, and I vaguely seem to remember liking the Jam but by now I am not sure if I prefer the raspberry jam or the strawberry!

Hi John
Just had to google Clout as I didn't have a clue who they were and found they sang "Substitute" all them years ago
Sad to admit it but a great track

Speaking of Lambretta's, Quadrophenia is on Film 4 next Friday, seen it a couple of times already and will watch it again next week.
Hi John
Got it on DVD and actually watched it a few weeks ago after you posted about Glenn Campbell and we all started on about our younger days, made me feel nostalgic so I poured a beer and put the movie on, great film great music.
Cheers

Looks like we could just open our own young at heart old fogies former Accountancy bods care home for ourselves and get the youngies like Deborah (who has had her post hijacked by a bunch of nutters) to look after us! Beats being shoved in a random one by our children when they get fed up with us.

Well done to you Riel. Will you go on to level 4? It's supposed to be really difficult. I'm not sure I've got the time or inclination, what with my bookkeeping business and farming.
