I'm in the middle of putting my L of E together using the AAT template and am not sure about the contract type ie off premises or on premises.
Do I need to include the 14 day right to cancel the contract or does it not apply.
I am going to be emailing it to the client for her signature, although I have been to her home where we discussed everything, then she telephoned me to say she wanted my services.
Never seen the AAT letter. Is this something to do with consumer credit act cooling off period? Be better to see the document so we can understand the context of the legal jargon so can you add it as an attachment?

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Yes it is to do with the cooling off period. I don't think I'm allowed by the AAT to attach it unfortunately as it can only be used by AAT members. Yes, it's. completely full of legal jargon which would not be appreciated by the client I think. Looking at it again, I don't think it's relevant to me, so I've adapted it for my own purposes. Hopefully it won't be a problem, Hey st least I've done a L of E!!

They had to sign a legal contract with the bank, why should their financial representation be a lesser relationship.
There was discussion on here about engagement letters as its the one thing that people are adverse to sharing due to the old what happens if you are sued and your engagement letter doesn't protect you... I don't know that the new AAT letters like but the old one didnt seem complete compared to the letters prepared by people on here. (I assume that they have now fixed those but you never know),
The list of sections in Nicks and My posts should give you a feel for what you need to include... Don't worry too much that he has 22 and I have 14 in that some of his sections are broken down further than mine. However, look at the section headings and think, does my LoE include that?
And the quick get out of jail free card to this post :
Neither the completeness or content of the example paragraphs, list of sections or general comments included in the above thread come with any implied assurance of completeness or correctness. Comments are intended as guidance only for you to make informed decisions related to the content of your own letter upon which neither mine, nor any other post on this site has any bearing. For assurance of the content of your contract I would recomend the employment of the services of a suitably qualified legal professional.
HTH,
Shaun.

Morning Shaun - Having looked at the new AAT one, I don't think it's any better than the old, seems very weak in places. Certainly not as comprehensive or providing any where near the protection of the other Accounting bodies letters.
Hi Karen - re Shaun's get out of jail part, I would also agree that if you don't have a good knowledge of the law and written contracts, that you use the services of an appropriately qualified professional, given that deleted or amended clauses can change the whole context, suitability and reliability of a contract without one realising the full legal impact.
Don't know if you are aware, but the slightly bigger Accuntancy firms have dedicated legal counsel working for them, some with rather large legal departments.
