Hi,

I am new to the forum.  I have completed Level 2 and am studying Level 3.  I have experience from my last job as the bookkeeper and my old accountant who runs his own business has offered to mentor me through to getting AATQB and hopefully starting my own business.

He has offered me one of his clients to get me started, and I have a question that I hope someone can help with.  His client has an old boatyard business, and they have done their books manually for years.  The younger son is taking over and wants to get the books computerised and I have been offered the chance to do this.

I know there are questions I need to ask, type of business, customers, suppliers, accounts, balances etc, but I wondered if there was a template of what to ask and what is needed to ensure I don't miss anything.  I know doing this mid year is going to be difficult but he wants it done now rather than waiting till April.  This is the type of client I will be after so it is a good start for me, and my accountant friend will check my work and mentor me.

So if anyone has any guides/templates that I can use, I would be very grateful.

Hi Chris/Edward?
Can you pop your first name into the signature bar so that it appears on all your posts please (via edit profile----> signatures).

So which exams have you still got to take at level 3?

Do you have MLR cover yet and PII insurance?

Re the boatyard business - is it Limited or sole trader? Is it VAT registered? Does it carry lots of stock and rent out berths to clients?

Sorry I know it's questions back at you, but I think the answers to those are importantant for us to understand in the first place.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
