Good evening all, my name is Francois and from the North East of the UK. I am almost finished with level 3 AAT AQ2016 but failed my synoptic exam so need to re sit.
I have received my AATQB status a few weeks ago and hope to become self-employed in the near future. I have experience in bookkeeping gained in the Hospitality industry and the majority of my skills lies in business management in the afore mentioned industry.
Im so glad to have found this forum and the wealth of support.
Welcome to the forum. If you are looking to become self employed you will probably find it useful to come to the AAT Tyne & Wear branch meetings. Most of the topics covered are useful to members in practice. Also, it will give you an opportunity to meet other self employed AAT bookkeepers and accountants.
Yes John, I am planning to do level 4 next year via self studying. My experience with my current college left a real bad taste due to lack of support and lecturers lack of knowledge in certain areas of the syllabus. (we use to sit in class consulting YouTube to make up for the lack of the lecturers knowledge, not very good if you paying £2500 for the course)
David many thanks for the information regarding branch meetings, I will keep my eye out for events. Am I correct to say it will appear on the AAT events page?
£2500 - you were robbed! Mind you Ive just seen the announcement for the new apprenticeship scheme and Im sure I saw an £8k price tag - I relegated that email to the maybe read later pile.
Have a look at Kaplan's new 'on demand' courses - Im just reviewing one and apart from some minor tweaks Ive spotted so far, Im quite impressed by what Ive seen. Although that said Ive probably only got a third of the way in. No idea on the cost neither. Other option is just books and if you go down this route then I would suggest First Intuition. Both work on the basis of explain, then provide lots of questions to practice with worked through answers.

Hi Joanne, yes I do feel like I have been robed but belief me I will not fall down that same hole again. Thank you for the information. I am going to have a look. I have also thought about using First Intuition, have only heard positive review for FI.
Hi Francois
FI have won quite a few awards, including BKN's, as has one of their trainers Nick Craggs....see here http://www.bookkeepers.network/bookkeeping-hall-of-fame
