Hi all,

Just after some advice regarding VAT with Campaign Monitor....Has anyone had any experience with the company?

I am in the UK and receive 'monthly tax invoices' from them but it states 'As an Australian company, we don't have a VAT number' .... the previous accountants put these monthly transactions as ZERO RATED but was wondering if they should be added as NO VAT?

There seems to be conflicted information when I researched it so thought I would ask in case there was anyone who used them on here.

Thank you

Lisa

Hi Lisa

So hows about an intro before we start. We always ask newbies!

Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, do you work for yourself or in a practice/ firm, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.

Hi Guys ..... sorry I shall introduce myself....

I studied with the ICB and completed Level 2 in Bookkeeping and nearly completed Level 3 but life just got in the way! During my studies I got a part time job as a bookkeeper in an Accountants where I have been working for just under a year and have since obtained a home working based client too. I am registered directly with HMRC under the money laundering regulations for my home based client. I am based on the South Coast of the UK.

So I understand the basics of VAT but with our ever increasing digitally based world, some across seas transactions can confuse me!

Just as an aside and for anyone else reading this I do hope your current employer is aware and that you do not breach any non compete rules in your contract.

Not sure if you have wandered into this site instead of the ICB forum in error, although unlike the ICB we welcome any bookkeepers and dont block what folk can see.

I would suggest some reading up of the VAT act itself, plus the HMRC guidance, although remember the guidance is just that (and often they interpret the law in their own way, which is quite often wrong)!

For this one though - what VAT scheme are they one (crucial info when asking such questions)

Yes my employer is aware I have a private client.

I trained with the ICB but I am no longer a member of the ICB as I am unable to register for money laundering and train under a professional body at the same time so had to make the call to continue training or to work.

I have read everything available with regards to VAT but Campaign Monitor is quite specific due to many differing things and was just wondered if I could find someone who deals with campaign monitor transactions on a regular basis ....

I will see if anyone out there reads this and can offer any advice.

Thanks

Lisa

I cannot see how Campaign Monitor is any different to many such services coming out of Australia or other places round the world and is covered by the place of supply of services.

I will see if anyone out there reads this and can offer any advice.  I was going to answer this, but was waiting for a response to my question about the VAT scheme.

Thanks

Lisa
