Vat online service issues
Permalink Closed

HMRC have issues with vat online. Nothing on the service issues pages (why are we not surprised) a good hour after my first few (read many!) attempts,  although a promise it was being updated. Hmrc staff have no clue when it will be fixed. They say it's intermittent, but I was trying for over three hours earlier with no luck!! Tough sh*t if you want to actually do something else other than sit hunched over your PC trying to get on to their cr*p systems!

HMRC say to keep screenshots if you cannot file before the dadline and use such in any penalty etc appeals. When I asked if such issues would be looked on favourably in the event of needing to go appeal I meant with a stone wall. Despite the fact that it's their bleedin problem. As ever HMRC have no clue about good customer service, how to actually help customers and instead just give the usual garbage response which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. In fact a chocolate fireguard has more uses.

Just thought you rabble should be aware in case you are thinking of leaving it until late tomorrow (bpnever mind we are up against the time limit as it is given the number of holidays!!

They are having problems with self assessment filing too. I have been trying to file a couple of returns

Hi Joanne

Definitely grounds for appeal if you can't get it submitted in time, in my opinion.  Do you submit through the software or the gateway?

 Hi John

I agree its grounds for appeal, but was surprised that HMRC would not commit to agreeing (even if there were NO other adverse factors in the case) that this would be looked on favourably even when it was an issue of their making and not clients.    If that was any private business they would be happy to say they wouldnt charge xyz, or would refund xyz in certain circumstances and if certain conditions existed. HMRC frankly know they have the upper hand and dont give a damn about wasting folks time and the fact that that time could be put to better use earning more money (and therefore generating more tax). Thats what p*sses me off.   In this instance I was submitted via the gateway.  But blockages are occuring via the software too - Ive had issues with CT returns as well.  Only good thing is that at least the software keeps trying but I was actually at my clients so I needed to know it had gone before I left (oh noooo, had to bring it home with me!)

I had a huge issue when trying to file our P11D's last year and we couldn;t get our last PAYE online payment to go through meaning it was almost late.

Come on HMRC, sort out your site if you are going to make us use it.

(And don't get me started on this supposedly logging a mobile number to log on. My boss/colleague doesn't even have a mobile and mine is purely personal so why should I use it for work?
