I currently work in a small practice doing accounts, bookkeeping and VAT. I really want to set up my own business but can't afford to loose my salary whilst starting up. Obviously I can start part time until I have a sufficient portfolio but I don't want to be sneaky about it and not let employers know. How did you all go about it? I have a good rapport with quite a few of my clients some of which have followed me through my career. Really want to take the plunge but nervous to do so.
Hi
So hows about a bit more on the intro before we start. We always ask newbies!
Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? What tax experience? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.
Can you pop your first name so that it appears in the signature bar please n your posts? Saves everyone looking it up each time!! (Edit profile --->signatures)
Why do you wish to be s/e?

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
Another one that has been on and not bothered to respond.
Would've been an interesting discussion.
Its amazing how many people take the time to sign up and start a post and then never bother to reply, makes you wonder why join a forum in the first place if you are not willing to converse with others
Mind you I spent ages writing my intro when I first joined and it took hours for me to actually press the submit button!
