I met with two new clients on 7th April 2018 both requiring new PAYE schemes.
In the past we have telephoned HMRC and obtained the necessary reference numbers by telephone the same day.
As HMRC encourage us to use online filing and registration I registered both companies online on 7th April 2018.
I was getting a little concerned that to date I have not received the reference numbers etc so telephoned HMRC and asked for the reference numbers to enable me to set up my Payroll software etc.
I was advised that as I had made an on line application they cannot provide any details until the applications have been processed, and we should receive the information around 27th April.
Hardly ideal, what if there were weekly paid staff or delays with post etc?
I suppose the answer is simply to register by telephone again in the future?
Very strange, I had a similar incident in March. Phoned up after 3 weeks as I was aware that you only have 30 days to file RTI and the lady said the numbers had been dispatched. Gave them to me over the phone and resent them to the client where they arrived a week later.
