Please can someone advise whether there is an easier way to process a clients VAT without having to go through the arduous process with HMRC??
I have not yet had to process another clients VAT until now, I have registered as a Non VAT Agent, I have received numerous emails from HMRC/Government Gateway but after weeks of emails and online forms I still am unable to process my clients VAT, I now need to ask them to call HMRC and provide authorisation.
Can I not just use the clients user I.D and password to process their VAT?
We usually ask for a bit of an intro from newcomers
Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, do you work for yourself or in a practice/ firm, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.
You could use the clients account but I don't think it comes across as very professional plus HMRC usually text them with an access code so you will need to be in contact with them at the same time
Why don't you just apply for VAT through your online agent account under 'services you can add'
