HI all, one of my clients  is asking for a report that shows the total of everything invoiced owed to him as he calls it every weeek. He is currently using sage 2014 and I cant find a report that just gives me the amount. Each report seems to break it down into periods not outstandin. Can anybody help please?

Hi Michelle
So hows about an intro before we start. We always ask newbies!

Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, do you work for yourself or in a practice/ firm, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.

Its Joanne by the way.

So just to clarify - who is your licence with? Are you continuing with your studies?

the report he calls it - what report do you call it? Ie what report are you looking at?

Hi Joanne sorry. The AAT, I will be doing next year. I have been exporting the outstanding information in to an excel sheet and getting the total from that. The aged debtors report is the one I use for anything 7days old, however my client has no decided he isnāt interested in the debt figure just the total amount he has invoiced out.

Slightly confusingly, in your first post you said he wants a report that shows "everything invoiced owed to him" which suggests the debtors figures, and now you're saying he wants "the amount he has invoiced out".

One of Sage's best features is the incredible flexibility of its report designer/generator, and even before you get to editing reports to do what you want, there are a very large number already set up for you.

But advising on which one suits your needs, or whether you need to modify one, is a little difficult unless you can be specific. If it's because your client is vague and non specific about what he wants, then you need to have a conversation with him that drives him towards those specifics - ask for clarity about what he wants, and if necessary, question him on specific details.

For example, if he just wants "the amount he has invoiced out" then surely that's just the total value of sales for the period he wants it - but perhaps he wants that broken down by customer? If so, there's probably a report for that but I couldn't say what it is offhand (I'm not on the wrong computer at the moment). Or maybe he just wants a list of the invoices for that period - in which case that's your sales ledger day book reports.

Or going back to the original description of "everything invoiced owed to him" - perhaps he's asking for a list of outstanding invoices? If so, that could be similar to a report I produce for one of my clients; a list of all the outstanding invoices, broken down by customer, which he uses for debt collection. There's a standard report for that: Sales ledger reports, something with "invoice" in the title, but I can't remember which one - again, wrong computer (and the one I use is slightly modified from the standard one, so has a different name).

Confused me too.  There is always a report you can grab or create, so would be useful to understand what information he is actually trying to get to/what he wants to do with it.

Might help to know what type of sage as reports are occasionally in different places.

Oh and - welcome to the forumbiggrin

Sorry guys I know I could have worded it better...rush replying ha! Each week I get asked for the total he has invoiced out..this is what he calls ā money owed to himā I know how to get the reports for the outstanding debt form the debtors side and how to create a new report. His old bookkeeper has been selecting all the customers in the customer screen that have balances (where it turns blue when you click on it) and adding it up that way which Iām not sure is correct. Hope this makes more sense.

Hi Michelle
Sorry, maybe its me but it still isnt clear what you are after. Sounds like his previous bookkeeper was supplying him with something that he wasnt looking for neither, or doing it in a cack handed way.

You havent answered all of our Qs - which sage? who is your MLR cover with? See Vince's Qs

Does he just want to get his sales figure for the week?
