I wonder if anyone can recommend suitable training for payroll and auto enrolment.
I have only ever done a small amount of payroll and I would like to be able to offer this confidently so I am using this quiet time to increase my skill set.
I currently have 12 pay software and I may get Xero ( although I am currently going through the process of becoming certified with Xero and I can't say I am particularly enjoying it).
Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks
Valerie

Hi Valerie
I always suggest CIPP, but you might consider that a bit OTT.
Do the IAB not run a payroll course? I had in mind they did.
If you are looking to move from 12pay - look at Moneysoft.
Whatever you do - do not move to zero payroll, its completed trashed in every report I ever see. Whilst Im at it - dont consider Sage payroll neither - flipping expensive, as is Brightpay with their latest shenanigans.
Or how about subbing it out (white labelled)?

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
I'll take a look at CIPP but I think it is perhaps over the top for what I need at present. Especially as I've set myself the task of doing ATT and some serious marketing in the the next few weeks.
I'd forgotten about the IAB, I'll take a look at that.
Thanks for the tip on Xero and Sage.

Just to update, I've had a little mooch around and decided to self study with the IAB.
Textbooks bought direct from them so I'll see how that goes

Typically I've started getting busy with work when I thought I was going to have a chilled couple of months gaining masses of knowledge!
I've just bought the books only from IAB to self study. I may or may not take the exam at the end but it was more for me personally. If I do I shall just book that at a local training centre.
I've gone for level 2 and 3 as I do have some prior knowledge just not as much as I would like. I'm hoping it will cover pensions as obviously that's super important now but if not I may have to delve a bit deeper there.
I'll let you know how it goes

Hi Valerie
I am thinking of doing something similar and going down the self-study route, how are you finding it?

When I get chance to study I'm finding it a breeze. The IAB resource material is really well produced. A study text book with regular tests to check your knowledge and understanding. Doesn't really seem to cover pensions (unless I've not got there yet) or software other than HMRC tool but it's providing the basics that I wanted.
Just having to do my first auto enrolment so having to muddle through that on my own but still its all learning!
Good luck with it
Valerie

I ordered the study material from IAB, probably wont bother with the exams but missing not having anything to study so thought this would be something that will benefit me in the long run, hopefully pensions will be covered at some point.
Cheers

Out of interest, which software have you gone for?
I have 12 Pay from having used it in the past so I thought I may as well stick with that but I've not yet used it in relation to pensions

Same as you I have 12Pay, I know a lot on here advocate Moneysoft but no need for that at the moment in my case, but maybe something to think about in the future
Cheers
