Just had an email from HMRC about the new fees from 1st May...£300!!!

I'm lost for words, but had to put on here how appalled I am that yet again small businesses get hit with what is effectively a protection racket!!

I appreciate that they have to do something however, why do I have to pay for the privilege of doing the governments spying job!!!  Suppose, at least I'll not going to jail disbelief

Rant over

Hi Janet

I had to check the date to ensure it wasn't April Fools Day.  How the hell can they justify this?    A £100 fee was introduced for first time applicants, The main fee rose by a third two years ago.and now they want to more than double it again. This isn't just a fee per business, it's a fee per premises.

Ah well, more costs to burden our clients with.

Am I right in believing that it should be run at cost and no "profit" made?

Maybe we should report HMRC to someone?

Another attempt by HMRC to get rid of Accountants?

As I said elsewhere today:-

Having been 'supervised' by both hmrc and a governing body I fail to see what hmrc supervision consists of.

It's just another form of taxation. They just take the fee, add your name to their online list and run.

It doesn't resolve the money laundering situation.

Acting ethically will help the ML situation, assuming the powers that be follow up the leads.

Those who don't act ethically in the industry will be the ones who have not registered in the first place.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Totally agree its them making money for nothing, all we do is fill out a form pay the money and then not hear from them again until they want paying again.

May have to look at having MLR with a governing body, but how long before they up prices knowing what HMRC charge!
