Problem getting a client on VAT MTD
Permalink Closed

I set up my MTD back in July but just after that I got a new client who I did a 64-8 for and he duly went  on the old system. Want to pull him over to MTD ready for the next VAT return and I tried signing him up and got the following message.

For request 'POST /vat-through-software/sign-up/client/vat-number' [No CSRF token found in body]

The VAT number is correct.  I then tried the option, copy more MTD and self assessment authorisations over but it told me I had already done this?????  It did say I had 42 to bring across and from memory that was the figure last time, so it could be this client did transfer over, so why can't I sign him up for MTD?

Ah I thought, maybe I need to authorise him, but I got request denied.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi John
Am a bit confused by this - can you clarify my understanding please?

My understanding - you signed up to your ASA in July.   Is he now showing in your old agent VAT account as authorised?

If not then try again to authorise him.   I had a message I popped on here a few weeks ago - wasnt request denied, but was 'unsubmitted' and I tried it again, did something different cant recall what - sure its on here somewhere. Will try to find it - was fairly recent.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Here yo go

Not sure if it will help or not.

Have you tried the 'sign up your client' from your new ASA? If you have and that isnt working just try a dummy run of amending your clients vat details in the new ASA. That way you can see if your new client is appearing (bloody bloody stupid system!).

Other likely thing - has he signed up for MTD himself? Can you get into his BTA to check (not great, but the best option to finding out, ridiculous as it is!)

Is a bug in HMRC's website. It means that the web page that sends the instruction does not have the anti cross site request forgery token.

I have now started a conversation with HMRC about agents appointment and have confirmed that for VAT there are two levels.
a) The 64-8 or pin number process which gives authority for everything to do with VAT (or another tax) and ...
b) The Agents API or the pages on the new ASA which only give authority for ASA credentials (all the MTD stuff).

I am hoping to have a further conversation today to work out how things are going to change in the future for this.
