CIS automatic registration
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone

A new client with a newly formed Ltd company has had a CIS penalty and fined £100. They aren't registered for CIS and I can't find anything on their HMRC account to suggest why they have been fined. They pay through the payroll for the two directors and have nothing to do with the construction industry.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on?

Thanks

Sam

If only HMRC were that sophisticated.

Ring the agent / CIS line.

Did they tick the box by mistake when they registered as an Employer for PAYE, I did that once but the other way around, as Joanne said just phone the CIS helpline, they are pretty good

One of the better depts to deal with.  Always found them helpful.

Hi Sam, let us know the outcome. I was suspecting a possible phishing letter, but as Doug said, they may have ticked the CIS box when registering for new taxes.
