Confused about tax rebates
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone and I hope you are all well in body and mind.

I have a Company where an employee had two jobs and therefore their tax code was low. She stopped one job during the tax year which meant she had paid too much tax. How do I reclaim the tax? Its quite a lot of money and they are keen to get it back asap especially with all that is going on. What is the best way to do this, little bit confused.

A through the employer

B wait for a P800 and reclaim through the employee

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam

The employee can do it online but it might be a bit too early, as the final returns may not have gone in yet. The employer/agent has until 19th April to get them in.

Out of interest, was some clawed back by change of tax code by the one company, following P45 from the other?

If you do the year end for the one she is with, not clear, get it in now rather than wait, as John indicates, to 19th.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks both.

She finished with the one company a couple of months before the year end and I was only sent a new tax code for 20-21. Both companies have run their year end.
