Came across your forum by chance and I wanted to introduce myself.
When I left school I started an apprenticeship and got my level 2 AAT qualification. Unfortunately, despite having the opportunity to study up to level 4 I was young and stupid and left that job to work in security, somewhere I've been ever since. Since working in security I've started a few businesses and I did the bookkeeping for them however the businesses were barely covering their costs so I decided to close them.
More recently, late last year my youngest brother completed an accounting module as part of a business course he was undertaking and he would show me some of the material. After reading the material he was provided I went on to complete the free ACCA Introduction and Intermediate bookkeeping courses which I found really interesting and this year I've started studying the ACCA syllabus because I find it all really interesting.
I'd eventually like to become a self employed bookkeeper which is really why I joined the forum, to speak to others and listen to their experience as well as this being a treasure trove of useful information.

Anyways that me done.
Hope to talk to as many of you as I can.
All the best

So now you have a problem. See the other recent thread on this.
Have you spoken to ACCA about offering such services and how much of their membership regulations document have you read (yep, I'm talking the boring small print!)?

Lol, think if this as fabulous experience for researching the tax law when you get clients. Although if you can answer the above I'm sure me/someone will provide more enlightenment.

I've read sections, but from what I can gather ACCA don't consider bookkeeping as public practice for their purposes of membership, ACCA defining bookkeeping as preparation of accounting records to trial balance (recording of data to trial balance).
If that keeps me outside the scope of ACCA so I can keep studying, I'm happy with that.
Im impressed - its not often people read the ACCA rules, for some reason. I always say - always read the small print, good mantra to have for working with clients as well as personally, albeit its not always the most interesting of reads.
Issue then you might have is working beyond TB as a bookkeeper, which is why I asked what services you were intending offering, because bookkeeping per ACCA v bookkeeping in practice are two very different animals.
Ie it might exclude a huge chunk of sole traders and the like, because they generally want a one stop shop. Not always the case I know and some on here make a good living doing the pure bookkeeping for the larger sole trader businesses, handing off to an Accountant for theyear end and tax work. But you do need to be careful what you take on/how you position yourself. ALL businesses want tax advice, but as an ACCA student up to gaining the practice licence you cannot deal with a lot that other, lesser prof bodies licence holders and QE bookkeepers are able to do - which may seem unfair but the rule is there for good reason. They can and will audit you and the penalties for infringment are high.
