Hi Alan
Can you pleae provide an intro re your background. We always ask newbies.

Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, do you work for yourself or in a practice/ firm, who is your MLR with, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.

Also please add your first name so that it appears under the signature bar on your posts? Saves everyone looking it up each time!! (Edit profile --->signatures)

Hi,

There are several possible reasons as to why you may receive the message 'Unable to connect to Data Source. Check configuration.' When running reports in Sage Accounts.

You can follow the steps in this guide http://ow.ly/OVcO50zrykT to resolve this.

Regards,

Paul

You should do the courtesy of the forum and wait for this OP to respond to initial requests for information before posting further. Please bear that in mind in future.

Hi Joanne

I'm not altogether sure that link is genuine, and I'm not clicking it to find out!!    The response has been pasted in rather than typed and the answer is somewhat generic.

Hi John
Yes I noticed the paste job, which is usually a giveaway for spam dumping, although in this case its a good link. I think it might be the same Paul who answers (on an ad hoc basis) on aweb. But he needs to understand we some rules/standards on here. No ignoring or talking over previous posters, the one I mention above, not adding business links in your sign off/profile unless a long standing regular contributor, no providing information to business owners as well as a few others. This aint aweb and nor is it UKBusiness forum.

Dear Joanne,

Apologies for not replying sooner, I hope I have not offended. I am a retired letting agent, sole practice, doing lettings and residential management in the Hampstead and West Hampstead areas of London.

No formal qualifications, in business for about twenty five years and always doing my best to look after my clients

Hoping that this is enough

Thank you Paul for the link. I will give it a try

Yours sincerely

Alan

Sorry not to have replied, I have not been well. I am now retired and ran a residential letting and management agency in North West London. My clients were mainly landlords with one to three properties to let and I used sage for their accounts.

Happy to give more info if anyone wishes.

My first name as you request is Alan.

I can now go through these posts, thanks everyone.

Alan

Hello Paul,
I clicked on your link but it refers to Sage 50. I have Instant accounts. I know this sounds like I am a scaredy-cat but would it be a risk to try this on my instand accounts or will be be ok?
Keep well everybody.
Alan

Hi Alan

The downloads seem to be specifically for Sage 50, so I think you're wise not to try it.

Any sage users out there that can help Alan?

Hi Alan,

So far as I'm aware Instant accounts is part of the Sage 50 family of products. I think it is essentially the same program, it is just that the licence unlocks fewer bits of functionality in the program. In particular, so far as I'm aware, the data connectors are the same for all members of the Sage 50 family. What's good for Sage Instant is good for Sage 50 Professional.

Regards,

Ian

Hi Ian

When I looked at the links Paul posted upthread, the downloads are to separate versions of the program (24, 25, 26 etc)  Would it be hard to identify which Sage 50 version would match with the Instant Alan has?

Well Paul, I have started to work on your link and still trying to figure it all out. John, I started with the 64 bit v26, as it was at the top.

I will let you know how it goes.
Best

Hi Alan,

Don't guess what your version is. In Sage go to Help > About and it will tell you exactly what you have.

Regards,

P.S. If it's old it will not be 64 bit.

Hi Alan,

I think the following link explaining how to re-install the ODBC Driver for versions lower than v23 may be useful
