Hi Everyone You can call me Neets, I am AATQB certified bookkeeper, almost finished L4, have just under 10 years of experience in multiple accountancy roles under industries, even as a Group Accountant. Now I have just established bookkeeping business, however I cannot get my head around and cannot find this anywhere, could I register myself as DPO purely on the fact that I am running the business on my own with no employees and no customer base? And at a later date register someone appropriately to the size of the company? Or do I have to register someone else from officials right now? Might be absolute ridiculous question, but hey yo live and learn.
Thank you so much
Well, I used it purely because I have the certificate and applying for licence. But, yes, you are right it is membership. Used it because I do not have license yet come through.
DPO is not the same as MLRO (the info you have passed it relates to Money Loundering), which I have in place. DPO is data protection officer.
Thanks Have a great day!
Hi Neets, welcome to the forum. Now that I know what DPO stands for, yes you can. Indeed if you're a one woman band you'd have little choice but to be DPO

Oops, I put the wrong link on to the wrong reply (my other being an email....which hasnt been spotted yet!). End of a loooooong day. Sorry!
As John says - yes.
But back to the Money laundering - have you signed up with HMRC? Cos you could have saved a fortune getting it with your AATQB licence (one for next year if you have paid, if not...cancel that card/other payment quickly)

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
Thank you guys, I have ML with AAT. I just thought last night I seen some of you posted on another post the HMRC £300, with AAT it does not cost anything as it is included with membership fees. I found out this morning calling to ICO that I can be registered for my own practice. Now just waiting the license to be approved and I really hope it will be.
Enjoy your Friday

Included with membership? I thought it only came with the licence!
Data security has always been of paramount importance to us, but GDPR makes the security and privacy aspects even more important. Businesses, both data controllers as well as data processers, need to meet a whole list of requirements to demonstrate GDPR compliance. They have to commit to enhancing their data inventory and mapping processes, revising written data processing agreements (DPAs), appointing a data protection officer (DPO), and putting a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) policy in place.

Lifted straight from the internet word for word. I won't post the link. Pretty easy to find
