Exact time to file annual accounts and a confirmation - when
Permalink Closed

Hello everybody!

I'm approaching the time when I'll have to file for the first time annual accounts and a confirmation statements for Companies House via WebFiling service. I just to to make sure when would be the due date for all of that. Though it's written in WebFiling, but it's not very intuitive to me. I registered my limited company on June 22, 2020. What I see in Webfiling is this:

First accounts made up to

30 June 2021 due by
22 March 2022

AND ALSO THIS:

Confirmation Statement Date
21 June 2021
Next Statement to be Filed by
5 July 2021
Your payment period is from 22 June 2020 to 21 June 2021

So the way I understand this is that I have to file my first account after June 30, 2021 till March 22, 2022, correct? And the statement should be filed after June 21, 2021 till July 5, 2021, right?

Yes you are correct about the CH filing dates, but also remember you will need to file 2 CT600 returns with HMRC within 12 months of the end of your accounting period and you will also have to pay any Corporation Tax owed within 9 months after the end of your accounting period.

I am sure your accountant will be sending reminders about the deadlines.

Hi Michael

As Doug says.  Deadline for Companies House filing is exactly 9 months from your year end except the first year, when it's 21 months from your incorporation date, hence why it's 22nd March 2022 and not 31st March. Next year it will be 31st March.

Doug also mentions completing 2 CT Tax returns, this is because the maximum period is 1 year and your first period spans an extra 9 days, although your accounting dates can be altered with HMRC.

Do you have an accountant?  Definitely worth considering sooner rather than later.  Most accountants will let you spread the cost between now and when you want the accounts submitted, so no big bill at the end.

Thanks a lot for your help! The thing is... right now the company is still inactive, so there's no really a point to hire an accountant. I don't have UTR for HMRC to make company dormant in order to avoid filing CT600 for a time being... I did send an online request for them to re-send me by post UTR. So I'm waiting for the letter to arrive.

If it doesn't come, I would contact HMRC on 0300 200 3410 and see if they've issued a UTR, but they normally do.

Can I call that number from outside of the UK? You know, in every country there're some special phone numbers formats which are only accessible from within the country... Like toll free numbers etc.
