Is anyone else having trouble getting online client authorisations through from HMRC? I applied for seven around the 16th/17th March and so far only received one back, not too fussed about the CT and SA ones but I need the CIS ones in order to verify subbies and then submit the return by April 19th as Moneysoft will not allow me to file/verify without authorisation in place.
Cheers

I've done 3 recently and all came back in the expected time, think I did one about 9/10th March, as I vaguely recall a 9th April deadline.
Have you checked to see if they,ve been issued?
Hi John, thanks for the reply
Yes all been issued the day after applying.
Just want to be able to submit the CIS return before the 19th as this is the last month of the tax year, new client has not been operating CIS and submitting returns even though he has deducted the 20% and has every intention of doing so (might of had to be 30% but I do not know as unable to verify subbies)
Not sure if anyone has tried this using Moneysoft but at the moment I am unable to verify subbies at what rate to deduct as not authorised with HMRC, i just tried for the same client to file a previous month CIS300 and it was accepted by HMRC, if i was to verify the subbies using another client that i am authorised for and then manually input the Verification number and submitted the return would this work? This is obviously a last resort and I will leave to the 19th to try but just wondering if it may work, any one tried it?
Thanks

It's certainly an option and I hadn't realised you could file returns for contractors if not authorised. (Could have done that a month ago but as it was a nil return I weren't too bothered) but it makes sense as you can file paye returns for those not authorised.
Only possible danger if it records it the verification against the wrong contractor but if subby is 20% then he's 20% regardless of who he's working for, I'd go for it as a last resort.

Hi John
I just thought I would try the return thinking no harm done if it was rejected but it went through, yes it will be a last resort, going to wait until tomorrows post to see if client receives it and if not reapply that still leaves over 10 days.
This job would be so much easier if HMRC did not get involved, this is 2021 and we are still relying on the post!! if i post accounts out I always send a copy by email as well, why can't HMRC just use emails for authorisations?
Cheers

Issues with PAYE/CIS authorisations are quite common due to the address held on file. Often the PAYE address will be an old accountant or a previous house of the client and because there is nowhere obvious to view the address it gets forgotten and not updated and then your authorisation letters are sitting on the doormat of a redundant address. May be worthwhile getting the client to call ERs Helpline and ensure that their PAYE correspondence address is correct.

Responses are my opinion based on the information provided. All information should be thoroughly checked before being relied on.
When requesting authorisation, you would input their current postcode. If address is different at HMRC, wouldn't it fail at that point?
That's the problem John, you do not need to put in the postcode for PAYE and CIS only the Accounts Ref and Employers Ref which means half the time you do not have a clue if it is going to the correct address and if you phone them they will not talk to you to say if the address is correct as you do not have authorisation.
Anyway thanks for the replies, my client received the CIS code through yesterday, the same day that I got the email to say the code will expire in 7 days! But at least i have it, still got 2 others outstanding but not to bothered about them.
Cheers
