Can I delete a company in the HMRC PAYE Basic Tools??
Permalink Closed

Does anyone know how to delete a company in Basic Tools?

I have inherited a company payroll from another bookkeeper and when she sent the backup it has several other companies in the backup too that are noting to do with me. I have started to get messages about the deadlines missed in these companies for filing etc and they are nothing to do with me. Not great data protection on the part of HMRC as I could access this info and really should not be able to

Many thanks

You can't really blame HMRC, the bookkeeper should have only sent you the data related to the Company you have taken over.  To delete the employers you don't need go into the employer details and you'll see at the bottom right delete employer.

Thanks John

I have the latest option but there is no delete company option.

Also how do I back up just one company as I could do this for just my one company then restore the one company backup

The bookkeeper that sent me the backup said that you cannot backup just one employer if you have more than one??

Many thanks

Hi Barbara

My apologies, the updated version doesn't let you delete an employer.   The other bookkeeper is correct that you can't do a back up of just one employer.  I tried doing a back up then looking into the back up file to see if they could be deleted from there but it's sql lite which I have no knowledge of.

Therefore you're left with either ignoring the other employers and the notifications or using different software, sorry.

Hi John/Barbara,

If you were willing to share some anonymised content of the sql lite file I (and others) might be able to determine if a deletion looked possible.

Regards,

Hi Ian

Unfortunately I can't do it anonymised as I have an old client on the one I have.  Have sent you an email with the back up files for you to have a gander.  You're fine to report back here.
