Looking for help splitting household costs
Permalink Closed

Hello all!

I hope its ok to start with a question :) Most likely its a very simple issue, but any help would nevertheless be really welcome.

My question involves the following:

My flatmates and I would like to share all of our utility costs equally. I pay all of the bills except for internet which is paid by one of my flatmates. We have all agreed to contribute 100 euros per person per month to cover utilities, however the flatmate who pays the internet reduces his utility contribution by an amount equal to the cost of the internet.

Is it correct for him to reduce his contribution towards the payment of the rest of the utilities by an amount equal to the cost of the internet, or should he reduce his contribution towards the utility payments by 2/3 the cost of the internet?

Thanks in advance for any help!

He should reduce his share by the whole cost of the Internet not by 2/3, say the Internet cost £30 per month then your flatmate should only contribute £70 otherwise he would be paying out £10 more than everyone else, they are still paying the same £100 as everyone else just £70 and £30.

If he reduced it by 2/3 he would pay more, £80 plus the £30 internet = £110
