I have a few friends who are on their own and said they are starting to charge retainers because too many people do not pay their bills. It seems a bit aggressive to me - especially as someone starting out - does anyone else use them?

Is anyone aware of any live and in-person associations for bookkeepers? It seems like it would be a good idea to get a mentor so you can (hopefully) learn from their mistakes. This forum is great but I need an in-person mentor. Any ideas out there (or volunteers.. lol)!
